Abstract:

Abstract: Introduction: Excessive daytime sleepiness is related to significant morbidity and mortality in either the patients or others. Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT) is designed to evaluate the ability to maintenance of wakefulness in standard conditions of the test. Regarding the diversity of MWT protocols, and the importance of unification of them in Iran, this clinical practice guideline was provided. Methods: Initially, we studied the available guidelines, and chose one of them as the main guideline. Then, to standardize the clinical services provided to patients, we provide the adaptation of clinical guideline for MWT according to the conditions and facilities in Iran. Results: This guideline contains recommendations for implementation and interpretation of MWT. For each recommendation, the level of evidence including “standard”, “guideline” and “option” is specified. Conclusion: Regarding the prevalence of sleepiness, and its effect on occupational and traffic accidents, a standard cost-effective protocol for MWT would help a better allocation of health resources.
